Highly motivating. I know weeks after this will turn to be hectic with meetings, practices, auditions, forums, whatever and I need as much doses of motivation as I could to endure them. This is my new drugs :)

Okay. I've been anxiously waiting for Amir Muhammad's latest book; Yasmin Ahmad's Films. He posted an entry on his blog, calling for people to write sentences about any of Yasmin's films. May it be Rabun or Sepet, Mukhsin or Gubra, Muallaf or Talentime. And YES, I sent 2 sentences- profuse with hopefulness to be selected and printed.

These are my sentences;

Mukhsin: "Percintaan pertama itu adiktif bagai nikotin, indah bagai mimpi dan satu ilusi untuk semua manusia anuti."

Talentime: "A perfect chemistry. Sweet, soothing with just the right hint of mysticism. A subtly beautiful movie."

Cheesy, I know. But, I really hope one of these two will be included in the book. Why is this so important? Because I need some sense of accomplishment to keep myself going! :D

I love Los Angeles. I love Hollywood. They're beautiful. Everybody's plastic, but I love plastic. I want to be plastic.

Andy Warhol (1928-1987) was a weird genius.

Yesterday after (very brief indeed) meeting with my sister, she gave me extra allowance for this week, and I was over the moon. So, I persuaded Chip to go to Times Warehouse Sales at Digital Mall at USJ 19 Subang. Thanks Chip!

And I tell you, you have to go there before anyone else does because I saw (mostly chinese) people bought baskets of book! I was so jealous and right then I was hoping that I already had my own salary to buy more books. But since I'll be departed to Kelantan and Terengganu, I plan to laden my rucksack with novels. After almost one hour of hunting and searching, I eventually bought 8 books and the total damage for them books is around RM 130 ++. Phew, those extra allowance didn't last for even 24-hours in my wallet. Pantang ada duit!

I bought these title to quench my thirst of reading;

Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azar Nafisi

Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami

The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy

Andy Warhol by Wayne Koestanbaum

Meet the Wife by Clive Sinclair

Tokyo Doesn't Love Us Anymore by Ray Loriga

Long Way Round by Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman

The Secret Purposes by David Baddiel

and not to forget,

Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert T. Kiyosaki

Thanks to Liyana for the Kiyosaki's book, now I can read it for FREE! phew! The bitter fact whenever you go to shop for books is; you'll always fail to stick to your list. I listed 8 books in my previous post and swear to myself that I won't buy other books; not before I obtain all these 8 books. But at least now I have 2 from those eight books! Yes, I am excused. Finished Mark Haddon's "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time" last night and the next victim will be Azar's "Reading Lolita in Tehran".

I have another exam paper on Tuesday. What the hell was I thinking?

The MPH Distributors Warehouse Sale is coming again and my head is already busy listing up books that I've been lusting on for so long. The fact is, I still haven't finish reading another three books that I bought from the last warehouse sale; Coelho's Brida, Wahlstrom's The Tao of Writing & Pahrol's Dilema Melayu-Islam. I am currently re-reading Covey's The 8th Habit due to some reasons. But, I got a pretty good news from Liyana that I might be getting my maiden proof-reading part-time job salary next week. So, I'm hoping that I manage to buy one or two of these titles;

1. Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen
2. The Reader by Bernhard Schlink
3. Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azar Nafisi
4. The Bastard of Istanbul by Elif Shafak
5. The Prince by Nicollo Machiavelli
6. Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert T. Kiyosaki
7. Middlesex by Jeffret Eugenides
8. The Winner Stands Alone by Paulo Coelho

I know, I know this will cost hundreds, and obviously I can't afford it now. But, a man can dream, no?

Update: Watch out for tomorrow's StarTwo!
Update: Already checked StarTwo. The books in the list are plain boring.

How Starbucks Saved My Life

...a great read, like a sip of latte!

Chip, Acad and I started our journey to Kelana Jaya as soon as we had our lunch and of course, performed our Solat Jumaat. We headed to KJ rather aimlessly, and crazily looking for Wisma Mayang, an old, hideous pink building that can collapse in any seconds, I think. After numerous of pit-stops and QnA sessions with the locals, we FINALLY found it!

There are like thousands of lip-smacking books there, on the tables and racks, ready and calling my names. Geez. So I quickly mosey around, from racks to tables, and back again on the racks. The (old) place is like a sauna, I tell you! Maybe I'd lost pounds by sweating like a pig in there.

I finally bought only three books to quench my lusty thirst! Hahaha! and Acad, (who has been madly in love with Siti since last night), bought 3 books too. Of course, it burns a hole in my pocket, since I'm not a son of a Datuk or YB, but it's more than enough. I think. Better little than none!

I bought myself these books;

  • Brida by Paulo Coelho
  • The Tao of Writing by Ralph L.Wahlstrom
  • How Starbucks Saved My Life by Michael Gill

Oh! Books, glorious books!

[Tomorrow and Tomorrow]

Tomorrow Ethos! will lead about 60 thespian (maybe) students to attend 'Sirah Junjungan' theater in Istana Budaya. I am glad that this maiden trip of the semester will finally work out. It's a bliss, really.

For those who are going to watch, I hope that you may absorb the knowledge as much as you can, and obtain profuse knowledge from the show. However, I'm not going to watch the theater for a reason. Do send my warm regards to Siti Nurhaliza, too. Hahaha!

I need money to buy (more) books.

And to some extent, the reason sounds so corny, cheesy and beyond the pale, but I really, really need to save some amount of my weekly allowance to buy more book for myself. Yeah, Obsession sucks.

And there's a MPH's 'Jimat Fair' this month up until this Sunday.

I have no choice.

I must go.

~ ~
Today is such a lovely Sunday, so I decided to wake up a bit early and went out, heading to Saba’ Islamic Media, checking Sheikh Yusuf Estes’ DVD, but unfortunately they has not yet released it. Maybe next month, the girl at the counter said. Maybe.

So, I aimlessly strolled around, had my breakfast and went to MPH Bookstore. After a quick chat with Shah (my ex-workmate), I quickly grabbed four books to read. I have quite a plenty time to kill, so there I was, with four books and one magazine in both of my hands I steadily crept at the very back of the last, hidden shelf, sat down and started enjoying the feast before my eyes.

Here are the books that I had a quick flip through;

1. Love Letters of Great Men edited by Ursula Doyle MacMillan.

Have you noticed the book that Sex and the City’s Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) read in an on-the-bed-scene? Well, the book was actually just a mock-up prop in the movie, but YES, people start digging for it. So, this Ursula Doyle smartly turns it into a cash cow! Ka-ching! You can read Love letters of Victor Hugo, Nopoleon Bonaparte, Victor Hugo, Oscar Wilde, Alexander Pope and etcetras; famous men with pen in hand and heart in mouth!

I didn’t buy the book. Too romantic for unromantic me.

2. Brida and The Zahir by Paulo Coelho

I don’t have to read the synopsis, comments, review, or whatevershit when it comes to Paulo Coelho. I Love his work so much. I haven’t read this book and I don’t even care to read the synopsis. I just want to buy this book. Period.

3. Ayat-Ayat Cinta by Habiburrahman El Shirazy

I Love the movie so much. But I hear some hearsays that the Novel is much, much better that the movie. So I decided to buy the book and by I’m typing this, I’m already at page 28! Not so impressive, aye?

4. Off The Edge (magazine)

I Love how Patrick Teoh write about them politicians. He’s a genius. It will cost you RM 6. I can buy a plate of Pak Li's Mee Goreng Mamak dengan Ipoh White Coffee with that cash. So, I didn't buy it. I've read it though!

I ended up buying 2 books; Paulo Coelho's The Zahir and Habiburrahman's Ayat-Ayat Cinta with 30% discount! and I still haven't finish reading Animal Farm. Urgh!

p/s: I bribed them workers with 1/2 dozen Big Apple's doughnuts. Future investment, I must say. Hahaha!
